SOUTH EAST COUNCILS ELECT 2017 LEADERSHIP TEAM

Kent and Hampshire council leaders will head South East campaigning over the coming year for greater Government investment in South East transport, infrastructure and local services. Cross-party local government leaders from across the South East elected the leadership team of South East England Councils (SEEC), which champions the interests of local government, businesses and 9.1 million residents across an area stretching from Buckinghamshire to Kent.

This year’s SEEC Chairman is Cllr Nicolas Heslop (Leader of Tonbridge and Malling BC, Conservative). Cllr Roy Perry (Leader of Hampshire CC, Con) is SEEC Deputy Chairman and Cllr David Monk (Leader of Shepway DC, Con) is SEEC Secretary/Treasurer.

Cllr Tony Page (Labour, Deputy Leader of Reading BC) and Cllr Keith House (Lib-Dem, Leader of Eastleigh BC) are SEEC Vice Chairmen.

Cllr Heslop said: “I am delighted to be re-elected as Chairman to continue working for increased investment in the South East – the engine room of the UK economy. As we prepare to leave the EU, it is critical that the South East has adequate funding to help deliver the transport, skills and hi-tech infrastructure our businesses need to compete post-Brexit and the local services needed by our communities.”

Cllr Perry said: “I welcome the opportunity as SEEC Deputy Chairman to help shape the future of the South East. Working together, county, district, unitary councils and their partners are transforming to deliver services that support both our residents and economic, housing and job growth in our area. It is vital that we keep reminding Government of the importance of a thriving South East economy to the nation’s economic wellbeing.”
