Speaking for the South East

One of SEEC’s key objectives is to represent and promote the views and interests of local government in the South East. We are the only organisation that speaks on behalf of all tiers of local government, with members covering county, unitary and district councils.

2017

  • Upgrade border controls before Brexit – Writing in LGA’s First Magazine, SEEC Chairman Nicolas Heslop calls on Government to prioritise upgrading the UK’s border controls (October 2017)
  • Tackling skills gaps post-Brexit – SEEC Chairman Nicolas Heslop, writing in the MJ calls for new powers for councils to address local skills gaps after the UK leaves the EU (October 2017)
  • Upgrading border controls – SEEC and (SESPM) write to Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, David Davis MP and Minister of State for Immigration, Brandon Lewis MP, urging them to prioritise upgrading of border controls for passengers and freight in advance of Brexit (September 2017)
  • Shaping the new London Plan – SEEC writes to  London Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills, Jules Pipe to highlight South East views on potential policies for the new London Plan (August 2017)
  • Reducing homelessness –  Writing in LGC, SEEC Chairman Cllr Nicolas Heslop called for powers to target increases in LHA and to build more homes in order to reduce homelessness (July 2017)
  • Delivering homes – WSE leaders write to Housing Minister, Alok Sharma MP requesting a meeting to discuss tackling  unimplemented planning permissions in the South East (July 2017)
