South East local authorities have voted overwhelmingly to ask Government to abolish regional development agency, SEEDA, and devolve economic development funding and assets to councils.

Under current legislation local government and the relevant regional development agency in each English region have a shared responsibility to produce a new single regional strategy. The new strategy will bring the existing regional spatial strategy (The South East Plan) and the Regional Economic Strategy together into one new Plan.

Government funding for restoring empty homes to use and improving the standard of private sector (privately rented and owner occupied) housing is to be reduced by 20 per cent for 2010/11 from £376 million to £301 million.
