PRESS RELEASES
There is a mix of good news and disappointment for South East local authorities in the Chancellor's autumn statement and other recent policy announcements. Welcome and positive news on investment is offset by some decisions that exclude the South East.
A number of major transport projects will go ahead, including road and rail improvements, as well as a commitment to a new lower Thames crossing. South East councils will also be eligible to bid for extra transport funding and additional Regional Growth Fund money.
£100m has been made available to help up to 10 cities become 'super connected' broadband locations. It is not yet clear whether South East cities will be eligible to apply for this.
Unfortunately other city-related policies such as CIL powers for elected mayors exclude South East authorities as they are not among the largest 12 cities in England. South East Enterprise Zones are also excluded from changes allowing 100% capital allowances for manufacturing business.
SEEC has produced a short member briefing on key issues in the autumn statement and other policy announcements. Read the briefing in full here.
