SEEC Annual Review 2010-11

SEEC's Annual Review 2010-11 is now available online, highlighting key work areas and successes over the past 12 months.

SEEC works to 4 principles. These are to:

  • Strive for a fair funding deal for the South East
  • Promote the South East's position as a leading global economy
  • Act as a single democratic voice for South East interests
  • Monitor the pulse of the South East.

Suppporting these principles, some of SEEC's successes this year include:

  • Commissioning a major research project on how to make local government funding fairer and more transparent.
  • Submitting SEEC member views to Government on topics as diverse as Spending Review, Regional Growth Fund, New Homes Bonus, business rates and the Localism Bill.
  • Publishing a report highlighting the need for investment in underperforming areas of the South East economy and the extent of deprivation faced by hundreds of thousands of South East residents.
  • Raising councillors' awareness of skills gaps developing in the economy through close co-operation with partner organisation South East Strategic Partnership for Migration.
  • Creating a data dashboard to monitor economic and social trends across the South East, providing evidence to help influence Government policy.
  • Setting principles to guide councils' input into European issues and raising awareness of EU funding opportunities.
