COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS

Other Meetings
In addition to its regular programme of all-member Plenary and Executive meetings, SEEC also organises occasional meetings on an ad hoc basis to address topical policy issues.

Meetings

SEEC Housing Conference 2011

A major event for 2011 was the SEEC conference 'Housing the South East: Opportunities and Challenges' on 15 February 2011. An impressive range of speakers from CLG, local authorities and the housing sector was pulled together to help councillors and senior officers from SEEC member councils develop innovative ways to deliver new homes. Scheduled keynote speakers Bob Neill MP and private sector developers Kier, sat alongside specialists on homelessness, social housing and planning. View more details of the conference and copies of presentations.

With support from the South East Strategic Partnership for Migration, the day also shared best practice on housing economic migrants.

SEEC Task & Finish Groups

In 2010 SEEC agreed to establish task & finish groups of leading councillors to address two important issues:

  • Access to European Funding
  • Data to monitor the health of the South East economy

The task groups will report their recommendations to the SEEC AGM in July 2011. The European task group builds on earlier work in 2010 by SEEC to explore how South East local authorities can improve access to European sources of funding. The earlier work on Europe will now be taken forward by the new task & finish group.

Inter-regional Forum

This is a forum where leaders from the South East, East of England and London meet occasionally to discuss issues of common concern.

Discussions are underway about the future format and structure of meetings. Previously the meetings focused around the now-abolished statutory regional plans. Documents from those previous meetings are still available on the former Regional Assembly Website.

Previous projects

Previously, In 2009 and 2010 SEEC joined forces with the South East England Partnership Board to take forward the Thames Basin Heaths Joint Strategic Partnership. Link to papers on The Thames Basin Heaths.
