SEC contribution recognised in APPG fiscal devolution report

South East Councils’ contribution has been recognised in a new report from the APPG for Local Government calling for more ambitious fiscal devolution.

The report, No Government Can Deliver Long-Term Without Ambitious Fiscal Devolution, argues that greater local fiscal freedom should be central to the next phase of devolution.

South East Councils was one of 16 published contributors to the report, alongside organisations including London Councils, the County Councils Network, Local Councils Network, and Localis think tank.

The report thanked contributors for their submissions, stating that it was “greatly enhanced” by their contributions.

The report has already attracted national and sector coverage, including by Sky News and LocalGov, with debate focusing on whether councils should be given greater freedom over council tax and other local revenue-raising powers.

South East Councils has long called for fiscal devolution and wider reform of local government finance, arguing that greater local flexibility and financial certainty would help councils plan for the long term, attract investment, support growth and deliver better public services for residents.
