South East Councils (SEC) has responded to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government’s (MHCLG) consultation:
“Reforming the Right to Buy”
The consultation sought views on how the Right to Buy should be reformed to deliver a fairer, better value and more sustainable scheme where longstanding tenants can buy their own homes and how councils can replace those homes.
SEC’s response included:
“The South East is one of the most expensive regions buy or rent a home. The current undersupply of affordable housing in the South East gives rise to a host of impacts on communities and businesses.”
“The recurring point of significance heard amongst our members is that steps should be taken so that Right to Buy covers the cost of at least replenishing existing stock.”
