South East Councils (SEC) has written to the new Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government.
Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP was appointed by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to replace former Deputy PM and SoS Angela Rayner.
The letter congratulates Mr Reed on his appointment and highlights SEC’s latest South East 1,000 Regional Monitor polling, which, produced with Savanta ComRes, offers key insights to inform policymaking.
SEC highlighted the need for clarity on how Council debt will be managed where authorities are set to be abolished through local government reorganisation.
The importance of ensuring high-quality service provision during this period is also emphasised.
Looking forward, the letter calls for the ultimate issue of local government finance to be properly addressed in the near future once reorganisation has taken shape.
SEC looks forward to working with the Secretary of State and wishes him the best of luck in his new role.
