To ensure our region can grow sustainably South East Councils believes that:
-
Planning reforms should be consulted upon with a view to equip local authorities with the powers necessary to ensure that housing delivery proposals in their area meet the needs of local residents, and are built swiftly once accepted.
-
Greater flexibilities over Council Tax should be introduced to give local residents more of a say on tax and spend in their own communities.
-
Right to Buy legislation should be reformed to ensure that councils have the ability to viably replenish or even grow their housing stock.
-
Local authorities should have the ultimate say in whether to revoke Permitted Development Rights and refuse planning permission for changes in use class into short-term lettings, with serious penalties for non-compliance with the new mandatory registration scheme.
