To ensure our region can grow sustainably South East Councils believes that:
- Housing Delivery rules should be amended to arm local authorities with the powers and sanctions necessary to effectively hold developers responsible for the build out rates in local housing building programmes.
- Local councils must have a central role to ensure appropriate standards and controls over Permitted Development Rights; ensuring considerations on individual health, family space and community cohesion are part of a decision- making process.
- An ongoing, considered assessment of Covid-19 impacts on commuting, travel to work and home-working patterns is required before any new government initiatives on reforming the Planning system are brought forward.
- An enhanced duty to cooperate should be placed on the Greater London Authority to ensure timely, adequate consideration is given to impacts on the South East of London’s future growth, particularly on any intrusions in the Metropolitan Green Belt.
