Speaking at Conservative Party Conference today, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove spoke highly of local Councillors.
Gove thanked current and former Councillors saying:
“Our councillors and former councillors are the stars who guide our path forward, the local heroes responsible for thousands of acts of kindness and leadership everyday.”
Before moving on to the priorities of his Department, including affordable, safe and decent homes, building on brownfield land, energy efficiency, and beauty, the Secretary of State added:
“Our Councillors remind us that we win as a team, and as a team we have so much more to do.”
Chair of South East Councils Cllr Nick Adams-King has responded:
“We welcome the offer, but Government needs to provide councils with the powers and funding to deliver our side of the partnership.”
SEC looks forward to working with the Secretary of State to deliver on central and local government’s shared priorities.
